Acne injection effectively treats inflammatory/nodulocystic acne.

It is also useful for hypertrophic scars like keloids.

It is a steroid injection. It contains a low concentration of anti-inflammatory medication called Triamcinolone. When injected into a flaring pimple, the ongoing inflammation is quickly reduced in the next 1-2 days.

The face is cleansed. The pimple is iced. A pin-prick sensation is felt as the needle is carefully plunged into the pimple. A mild sting is felt as the doctor injects the steroid.

Mild swelling and redness can be expected right after treatment.

With the reduction in inflammation, the pimple will flatten in the next 2-3 days, together with reduction in redness. Likelihood of scarring from acne is greatly reduced.

Acne injections should only be reserved for inflammatory/nodulocystic acne. For other types of acne such as comedonal acne, other treatments such as medical facials and lasers are recommended instead.
