Softer, flatter scar
Less than 5 minutes
Steroid injection can help to flatten hypertrophic scars like keloids. It also provides good relief for common symptoms associated with keloids such as pain, itch and tightness.
It is a steroid injection. It contains a low concentration of anti-inflammatory medication called Triamcinolone. When injected into a keloid, the ongoing inflammation is reduced.
The treatment area is cleansed. The scar is iced. A pin-prick sensation is felt as the needle is carefully plunged into the scar. A mild sting is felt as the doctor injects the steroid.
Mild swelling and redness can be expected right after treatment.
With the reduction in inflammation, this causes the scar to soften and become flatter.
Individual results may vary.
Steroid injections may be repeated every 4-6 weeks if there is good clinical response.
