Who is this For?

Modern lasers can safely remove tattoos for those who wish to lighten or correct unwanted ink markings on their skin. Unlike methods in the past where it was painful and ineffective.

Using the Starwalker or Lutronic’s Q-switched Nd: YAG Spectra laser, a beam of energy penetrates deep into skin to disintegrate tattoo ink into particles small enough for blood cells to process and remove from the body.

The therapist will cleanse the treatment area and apply an anesthetic cream. The doctor runs the laser across the tattoo. The sensation when the laser hits the skin can be described as a tight rubber band snapping. Cold air is blown over the treatment area as the laser is applied to alleviate any potential discomfort.

Depending on the size of the area being treated, the total procedure time averages 15 minutes.

Every tattoo is unique, so the number of sessions needed to lighten them depends a number of factors:

  • Ink type e.g. metallic inks
  • Depth of tattoos
  • Age of tattoos
  • Colour of inks on tattoos
  • Individual’s skin condition

This procedure is performed by our doctors who are registered with the Singapore Medical Council.

The tattoos progressively become lighter after each session, It may take 6 – 12 treatments for the original tattoo to completely fade away.

Post-care requires the application of an antibiotic cream to help the area to heal. Usual wound care to keep the treated areas clean and dry is required.

Additional post-laser care is advised but otherwise, the patient can immediately resume normal activities.

Sometimes, pinpoint bleeding or blisters can be expected but these should not last for more than a week. In the event that blisters develop, blister post-care is included in the procedure.

For repeat sessions, you can schedule them with a 4- to 6-week gap. This allows the skin to heal and for the blood cells to process and remove the tattoo debris particles.
